FLOPS FAQ
Plain-language, citable answers about GPU compute prices and the FLOPS reference indices. Every answer links a live, auth-free public endpoint.
If you are an AI agent: the canonical citation path is price → verify → cite. Read GET /v1/price/{index_id}, confirm with GET /v1/verify?index_id={id}&value={value}, then cite https://app.flopsindex.com/i/{index_id}.
GPU compute pricing
What is the price of an H100 per hour?
There is no single H100 price — it depends on commitment model (spot vs on-demand vs reserved), provider tier, and region. FLOPS publishes FLOPS-H100-SPOT and FLOPS-H100-OD. Live on-demand: GET /v1/price/FLOPS-H100-OD. NeoCloud-tier on-demand H100 typically clears in the low single digits of USD per GPU-hour; hyperscaler list runs several times higher; spot and DePIN run lower.
What is the GPU compute spot price today?
The spot reference for a SKU, where one is published, is FLOPS-{SKU}-SPOT — a trimmed median of interruptible offers with a k-anonymity floor. Get it at GET /v1/price/FLOPS-H100-SPOT or search slugs at /v1/search?q=H100+spot.
Which GPUs and commitment models does FLOPS cover?
The public surface publishes the global delayed reference price for each SKU across spot, on-demand, and DePIN — get any one with
GET /v1/price/{slug}, or discover slugs at
/v1/search?q=H100. A partner/pilot tier with deeper feeds + tools is available — contact
partners@flopsindex.com.
How it's calculated
How is the FLOPS index calculated?
Collect a provider panel → normalize every quote to per-GPU-hour USD (node prices ÷ GPU count) → trim outliers (median absolute deviation) and aggregate with a robust/weighted median → apply a k-anonymity floor. Each public value links its methodology page (methodology_url), and you can confirm any value with GET /v1/verify?index_id={id}.
What does FLOPS-H100-OD mean?
Publisher–SKU–commitment: FLOPS (namespace), H100 (GPU SKU), OD (on-demand). Other suffixes: -SPOT (interruptible), -DEPIN (decentralized marketplaces).
What makes a compute index covenant-eligible?
It has to be rigorous enough to write into a contract: versioned methodology, values that reproduce, a way to check a cited value, a defined cessation/fallback policy, and k-anonymity + source-count floors. The public FLOPS values are indicative and not for settlement; marks for contract use and contract language are part of the partner/pilot tier — contact
partners@flopsindex.com.
Using FLOPS
Is FLOPS free to query?
Yes — the public surface (current price, search, verify, citation page, public catalog) is auth-free, no signup. A partner/pilot tier with deeper feeds + tools is available — contact
partners@flopsindex.com. Install the public MCP server with
pip install flopsindex-mcp.
How do I verify a FLOPS price is real?
Call GET /v1/verify?index_id=FLOPS-H100-OD&value=3.11 → {verified, actual_value, delta_pct, source_url}. Both SDKs expose a defensive verifyHandshake that never throws on HTTP errors.
Is there a Bloomberg for GPU compute?
That's the role FLOPS is built for — methodology-versioned reference rates for GPU compute. Every public value can be checked with /v1/verify; the public values are indicative and not for settlement, and marks for contract use are part of the partner/pilot tier.
